Identify your child’s learning style!

Kids are fast learners since, unlike adults, they don’t over think and engage in what is given to them. Their judgy frontal cortex hasn’t developed enough to over think; it’s that simple. So, what if your child is a slow learner and just doesn’t seem to take interest in studying? Find the answer to the following question to better understand your child.

Which learning style does your child adopt?

We all, in fact, fall in one or more of the following categories of learning styles:

Visual Learners prefer to visualize and relate info through a medium. The best tactic to motivate them is to show them pictures, graphs and visuals. Perhaps showing them animations regarding the subject matter would be a good way to go about it.

Auditory Learners are better listeners and identify learning by hearing rather than seeing it. These types of children need to be given their space to read out loud. Poems and music are great mediums to use while dealing with them. Asking your kid to repeat points and answer questions is also very effective.

Writing Learners are unique since learning is made easier for them once they jot down everything they have learnt. Since text is more powerful for them, use it as an advantage by giving them quizzes and challenges that require them to write. A “Daily Diary” is a good starting point.

Kinesthetic Learners learn with hands-on experience. They are considered the best type of learners since they learn by experimenting and by doing. These children are usually practical thinkers and require exercises or demonstrations to learn at their full potential. A child who is learning about plant growth needs to grow a plant to fully grasp the concept. Flash cards, toys and subject related role play is the key to getting through to them.

Using an online approach to teaching coupled with exercises and demonstrations is a great way to hit on multiple learning styles. Blending styles for your child is a great way for learning to stick.

Good luck!
